Snake Oil Salesmen

I wanted to take some time today to talk about those "fake" psychics and mediums. They are out there for sure. Which is unfortunate, because they prey upon people who are most likely in a very low spot in their lives and looking for something, anything, to feel better. And it puts the rest of us in a bad light.

My mother was one of those people who was taken in on more than one occasion by a snake oil salesman/saleswoman. We really don't know who they were because they were fake all the way through. When she was dying from cancer, she was looking for any glimmer of light and hope to tell her it wasn't so. She wasn't really dying. Or perhaps she was just cursed, and for a mere $150 money order, they would deliver a way to break that curse. Yes, that happened. She was sending money hand over fist to these fakes because she believed in what they were selling. When she passed, we realized just how bad it had been. My dad brought a stack of mail from probably well over 20 fakes asking her for money to make her better. I promptly responded to most of them that if they were truly what they said they were, they would know she had transitioned to spirit.

Well, let's delve in here and talk about some signs of a snake oil salesman or woman. First of all, psychics and mediums don't break curses. Most of us don't even believe in such a thing. With that said, there is bad energy or bad karma but that's all on the individual, not something someone else did.

We cannot heal a disease. If someone tells you that for $99.99 they will cure you of cancer, they are lying. Straight up. In fact, a good medium will send you off to your treatment of choice if they even pick up on a glimmer of illness or malady. But we should never tell you what to do about a particular illness. That's not our job. Our job is to provide messages from the spirit world. From your loved ones and ancestors who went before you.

It is my philosophy and the teaching and mentoring I've received from some very talented mediums that you never deliver a bad message. I feel that if a person doesn't walk away from a session with me feeling good about the message they received, then I didn't do what I was supposed to do. I am never going to tell a person they are cursed or their karma is bad. And I will not pass on a message from spirit that is not meant to be uplifting or carrying love from the spirit world.

It's unfortunate my mother got taken in by these frauds. It really is. Because she is the one who introduced me to the notion that there were, indeed, people who could talk to spirit. We went together to some fine mediums. And after she was gone, I chose which medium to consult with by word of mouth. And it only took one of those referrals to meet the woman who looked at me and said in her perfect Southern woman voice "you can do what I do". And she was right. That wonderful woman has passed on to spirit, but through her I have met other teachers and mentors and built a wonderful network of those who are much like me.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you are seeking out a medium/clairvoyant/psychic/healer, the best thing you can do is work through recommendations and referrals. Research the person you are thinking about scheduling an appointment with. And don't fall for the slick line of a snake oil salesman/saleswoman. Check with any spiritualist churches or organizations in your community as they will often have their own list of recommendations. I also have a list of trusted clairvoyants/mediums whom I have worked with and studied with, just email me and I'll send you the list at teresa.keefer.author@hotmail.com
